Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 4 pieces cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns
  • 0.25 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tbsp pickled jalapeños (finely chopped)
  • 4 pieces lettuce leaves
  • 1 medium tomato (sliced)
  • 0.5 medium red onion (sliced)
  • 2 tbsp butter (melted)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, and garlic powder. Mix gently until evenly combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Step 2

Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties about 3/4 inch thick. Use your thumb to make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.

Step 3

Preheat a grill, grill pan, or skillet over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the cooking surface before placing the patties on it.

Step 4

Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty and cover with a lid to melt the cheese.

Step 5

While the patties are cooking, split the hamburger buns in half and brush the cut sides with melted butter. Toast the buns on the grill or in a skillet until golden brown.

Step 6

In a small bowl, mix together mayonnaise, ketchup, and chopped pickled jalapeños to create the zippy sauce.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers: Spread a generous layer of zippy sauce on the bottom half of each bun. Place a lettuce leaf, a slice of tomato, and a slice of red onion on top.

Step 8

Add the cooked burger patty with melted cheese to each bun, then top with the other half of the bun.

Step 9

Serve immediately with your favorite side dishes and enjoy your Zippy Burgers!
