Ingredients

  • 4 cups Canned navy beans
  • 6 slices Bacon
  • 1 large Yellow onion
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 0.75 cups Ketchup
  • 0.5 cups Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Molasses
  • 1 tablespoon Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoons Smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 1 cup Water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

Drain and rinse the navy beans and set them aside.

Step 3

In a large, oven-safe skillet or Dutch oven, cook the bacon slices over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon, place on a paper towel to drain, and crumble once cool. Leave about 2 tablespoons of the bacon fat in the pan.

Step 4

Add the diced onion to the bacon fat and sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened and translucent.

Step 5

Mince the garlic cloves and add them to the onion. Cook for another minute until fragrant.

Step 6

Stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard, paprika, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine into a smooth sauce.

Step 7

Add the rinsed navy beans to the skillet, stirring gently to coat the beans in the sauce.

Step 8

Pour in the water and stir again to ensure everything is evenly distributed. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

Step 9

Transfer the skillet or Dutch oven to the preheated oven and bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened to your liking.

Step 10

Remove the dish from the oven and stir in the crumbled bacon.

Step 11

Serve hot as a side dish or enjoy it on its own with crusty bread.
