Ingredients

  • 500 g Ground lamb or beef
  • 2 medium, finely chopped Onion
  • 4 cloves, minced Garlic
  • 1 inch, grated Ginger
  • 2 medium, finely chopped Tomatoes
  • 2 small, finely chopped Green chilies
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 2 tsp Coriander powder
  • 0.5 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp Garam masala
  • 1 tsp Red chili powder
  • 1 tsp Ground cumin powder
  • 150 g Frozen green peas
  • 3 tbsp Vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp, or to taste Salt
  • 250 ml Water
  • 2 tbsp, finely chopped Fresh cilantro
  • 4 for serving Lemon wedges

Directions

Step 1

Heat 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat.

Step 2

Add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds and let them sizzle for 30 seconds until aromatic.

Step 3

Stir in the finely chopped onions and cook for 6-8 minutes until golden brown.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 5

Mix in the chopped tomatoes and green chilies. Cook for 5 minutes until the tomatoes become soft and pulpy.

Step 6

Add 2 teaspoons of coriander powder, 1 teaspoon of ground cumin powder, 1 teaspoon of red chili powder, 0.5 teaspoon of turmeric powder, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Stir well to combine the spices.

Step 7

Add the ground lamb or beef, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook for 5-7 minutes until it is browned and no longer pink.

Step 8

Pour in 250 ml of water and stir. Cover the pan and let it simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 9

Add the frozen green peas and 1 teaspoon of garam masala. Mix well and cook for another 5 minutes.

Step 10

Taste and adjust the salt as needed. Turn off the heat once the curry is thickened to your liking.

Step 11

Garnish with chopped fresh cilantro and serve with lemon wedges on the side.
