Ingredients

  • 2.75 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Granulated sugar
  • 2.5 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.75 cups Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cups Milk
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 4 units Large eggs
  • 5 colors Gel food coloring (variety of colors)
  • 3 cups Buttercream frosting

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Step 3

Add the softened butter, milk, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed using an electric mixer until the batter is smooth and well combined, about 2 minutes.

Step 4

Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Step 5

Divide the batter evenly into five separate bowls. Add a different gel food coloring to each bowl and gently mix until you get vibrant colors. Use as many colors as you'd like for the tie-dye effect.

Step 6

Using a spoon, drop dollops of each colored batter randomly into the prepared cake pans. Alternate colors to create a marbled effect. Once all the batter is in the pans, use a toothpick or skewer to gently swirl the colors for a tie-dye look. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 7

Bake the cakes in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Step 8

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

Step 9

Once the cakes are cool, place one layer on a cake stand or plate. Spread a generous layer of buttercream frosting on top, then stack the second layer on top.

Step 10

Frost the outside of the cake with the remaining buttercream, smoothing it out evenly.

Step 11

Slice and serve your colorful tie-dye cake. Enjoy!
