Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 0.5 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 4 slices sliced tomato
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, shredded cheese, panko breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently until all ingredients are evenly incorporated. Be careful not to overmix to avoid dense burgers.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a burger patty approximately 3/4-inch thick.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Add olive oil to the skillet if using, and allow it to warm for about 1 minute.

Step 4

Cook the burger patties for 5-6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) using a meat thermometer. Avoid pressing down on the patties to retain their juices.

Step 5

While the burgers are cooking, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.

Step 6

Assemble the burgers by spreading mayonnaise (if using) on the bottom half of each bun. Add a lettuce leaf and a slice of tomato, then place the cooked turkey burger on top. Add the top bun.

Step 7

Serve immediately with your favorite side dish, such as sweet potato fries or a fresh salad.
