Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground Italian sausage
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces canned crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces tomato paste
  • 15 ounces canned tomato sauce
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add ground beef, Italian sausage, and onion. Cook until the meat is browned and the onion is translucent, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.

Step 3

Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, and water. Sprinkle in parsley, basil, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 4

In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese. Mix well and set aside.

Step 5

Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and lay them flat on a clean surface to cool slightly.

Step 6

Spread 1 cup of the meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Lay 3 cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce.

Step 7

Spread one-third of the ricotta mixture over the noodles. Top with 1 cup of meat sauce, then sprinkle 1 cup of mozzarella cheese and 1/4 cup of Parmesan cheese.

Step 8

Repeat the layers (noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, mozzarella, Parmesan) two more times, finishing with a layer of meat sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan cheese on top.

Step 9

Cover the dish with foil (spray with cooking spray to prevent sticking) and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Step 10

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the edges are slightly golden.

Step 11

Remove the lasagna from the oven and allow it to rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
