Ingredients

  • 12 cups day-old bread
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 3 celery stalks
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 2.5 cups chicken or vegetable stock
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

Step 2

Cut the day-old bread into 1/2-inch cubes if not already pre-cut. Spread the cubes in a single layer on a baking sheet and toast in the preheated oven for 10 minutes until lightly crispy. Remove and let cool.

Step 3

Finely dice the onion, celery, and garlic cloves. Mince the parsley, sage, and thyme. Set aside.

Step 4

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion and celery, and sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Stir in the garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.

Step 5

Add the minced parsley, sage, thyme, and dried rosemary into the skillet. Stir and let the herbs release their fragrance, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 6

In a large mixing bowl, combine the toasted bread cubes and the vegetable-herb mixture. Toss gently to evenly distribute.

Step 7

In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the stock, eggs, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture evenly over the bread cubes and toss until the bread is well-coated but not soggy.

Step 8

Transfer the bread mixture into the prepared baking dish. Spread it out evenly and pat down gently with a spatula.

Step 9

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and slightly crispy.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy your Traditional Supper Stuffing!
