Ingredients

  • 4 medium Fresh tomatoes
  • 2 whole Green chiles (roasted and peeled)
  • 1 medium White onion
  • 2 whole Garlic cloves
  • 1 bunch Cilantro leaves
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Ground cumin
  • 1 small Jalapeño or serrano pepper (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the tomatoes and green chiles under cold water.

Using a skillet or open flame, lightly char the skin of the tomatoes, green chiles, and optional jalapeño if using. Turn occasionally until the skins blister and blacken slightly, about 5 minutes.

Once charred, place the green chiles and jalapeño (if using) in a bowl and cover with plastic wrap or a lid to steam for 5 minutes. This will make it easier to peel them.
