Indulge in the rich, smoky flavors of Tipsy Brisket, a show-stopping dish that’s perfect for any special occasion. This melt-in-your-mouth beef brisket is generously seasoned with a bold spice blend and slow-braised to perfection in a savory whiskey-infused sauce. Aromatic vegetables, a touch of brown sugar, tangy balsamic vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce round out the flavor profile, creating a sweet, smoky, and slightly tangy glaze that seeps into the tender meat. The whiskey not only deglazes the pan but also adds a warm, complex depth to this hearty recipe. Ideal for gatherings or a cozy family dinner, this dish pairs beautifully with mashed potatoes, crusty bread, or roasted vegetables. With minimal prep and the magic of low-and-slow cooking, Tipsy Brisket is bound to impress BBQ lovers and comfort food enthusiasts alike.
Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
Pat the brisket dry with paper towels and season it generously on both sides with kosher salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder.
In a large Dutch oven or heavy oven-safe pot, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on both sides until it develops a golden brown crust, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove the brisket and set it aside.
In the same pot, add the sliced onion, carrots, and celery. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are softened and beginning to caramelize.
Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
Pour in the whiskey and scrape the bottom of the pot with a wooden spoon to deglaze, loosening any browned bits. Allow the whiskey to simmer for 2-3 minutes to cook off some of the alcohol.
Stir in the tomato paste, brown sugar, balsamic vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and beef stock. Mix well to combine.
Return the brisket to the pot, placing it on top of the vegetables. Add the bay leaf and fresh thyme sprigs.
Cover the pot with a lid and place it in the preheated oven. Cook for 4-5 hours, basting the brisket with the pan juices every hour, until the meat is tender and easily shreddable with a fork.
Once cooked, carefully remove the brisket from the pot and set it on a cutting board. Let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing against the grain.
(Optional) Strain the pan juices into a bowl and skim off excess fat. Serve the juices as a flavorful sauce for the brisket.
Serve the Tipsy Brisket with your favorite sides and enjoy!
