Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.5 pound Ground pork
  • 0.5 pound Italian sausage (mild or spicy, casing removed)
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes (canned)
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
  • 12 pieces Lasagna noodles
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
  • 4 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, sauté until softened, about 3 minutes.

Step 3

Add the ground beef, ground pork, and Italian sausage to the skillet. Cook until the meat is browned and fully cooked, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, about 8 minutes. Drain any excess grease.

Step 4

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to allow the flavors to meld. Remove from heat.

Step 5

Meanwhile, cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and rinse with cold water to prevent sticking. Set aside.

Step 6

In a medium bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, egg, and parsley (if using). Stir together until well combined.

Step 7

Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish. Begin assembling the lasagna by spreading a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom of the dish.

Step 8

Place three or four lasagna noodles over the sauce, slightly overlapping. Spread a layer of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of shredded mozzarella cheese. Sprinkle a bit of grated Parmesan cheese over the mozzarella.

Step 9

Repeat the layers: meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and Parmesan until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of meat sauce topped with mozzarella and Parmesan on top.

Step 10

Cover the dish with aluminum foil (spray the underside with cooking spray to prevent sticking) and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

Step 11

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the top is lightly golden.

Step 12

Let the lasagna rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing to allow the layers to set. Serve warm and enjoy!
