Ingredients

  • 300 grams all-purpose flour
  • 150 grams unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 100 milliliters cold water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 250 grams ground beef
  • 100 grams potato, peeled and diced
  • 50 grams carrot, peeled and diced
  • 50 grams onion, finely chopped
  • 75 grams cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the cubed cold butter and rub it into the flour using your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

Step 3

Gradually add the cold water, a tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overwork it. Wrap the dough in cling film and refrigerate for 20 minutes.

Step 4

In the meantime, prepare the filling. In a bowl, combine the ground beef, diced potato, carrot, onion, grated cheese, Worcestershire sauce, and black pepper. Mix well to evenly distribute the ingredients.

Step 5

Remove the dough from the fridge and divide it into four equal portions. Roll out each portion on a floured surface into a circle about 20 cm (8 inches) in diameter.

Step 6

Spoon a quarter of the filling onto one side of each circle, leaving a small border around the edges.

Step 7

Brush the edges of the dough with the beaten egg, then fold the other half of the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges together and crimp them to seal.

Step 8

Place the pasties on the prepared baking tray and brush the tops with the remaining beaten egg for a golden finish.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crisp.

Step 10

Allow the pasties to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your Great Rock Roll Pasty piping hot or at room temperature!
