Ingredients

  • 400 grams extra-firm tofu
  • 2 lemongrass stalks
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 tablespoons coconut milk
  • 0.5 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro
  • 8 bamboo skewers
  • 1 tablespoon oil for grilling
  • 1 cup peanut dipping sauce (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Drain and press the tofu to remove excess moisture. Cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes and set aside.

Step 2

Peel and finely chop the lemongrass stalks, garlic, and ginger. Alternatively, you can use a food processor for a finer texture.

Step 3

In a medium bowl, whisk together the chopped lemongrass, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, maple syrup, lime juice, sesame oil, coconut milk, and red chili flakes to create the marinade.

Step 4

Place the tofu cubes in a shallow dish or resealable bag and pour the marinade over them. Toss to coat evenly. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or up to overnight for more flavor.

Step 5

While the tofu marinates, soak the bamboo skewers in water for 30 minutes to prevent them from burning during grilling.

Step 6

Remove the tofu from the marinade and thread the cubes onto the soaked skewers, leaving a little space between each piece for even grilling.

Step 7

Heat a grill pan or outdoor grill over medium heat and lightly brush with oil to prevent sticking.

Step 8

Grill the tofu skewers for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and slightly charred. Baste with any remaining marinade during grilling for extra flavor.

Step 9

Remove the skewers from the heat and transfer them to a serving platter. Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro.

Step 10

Serve the skewers hot with peanut dipping sauce on the side, if desired.
