Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 2 medium Shallots, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 Bird's eye chilies, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Water
  • 1 cup Thai basil leaves
  • 4 servings Cooked jasmine rice

Directions

Step 1

Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.

Step 2

Add the thinly sliced shallots and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant and slightly softened.

Step 3

Stir in the minced garlic and chopped bird's eye chilies. Cook for another 30 seconds, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Step 4

Add the ground beef to the pan and cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until browned and fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 5

In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, and water. Stir until the sugar dissolves.

Step 6

Pour the sauce mixture into the pan with the browned beef. Stir well to coat the beef evenly with the sauce.

Step 7

Reduce the heat to medium and simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Step 8

Add the Thai basil leaves to the pan and toss until just wilted, about 30 seconds.

Step 9

Remove the skillet from heat and serve the Thai Basil Beef hot over cooked jasmine rice.
