Ingredients

  • 4 pieces Salmon steaks
  • 0.5 cup Soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons Brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons Mirin (Japanese sweet rice wine)
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh ginger (grated)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon Cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon Water
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame seeds
  • 2 stalks Green onions (sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

In a small mixing bowl, prepare the teriyaki sauce by whisking together soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin, sesame oil, grated ginger, and minced garlic until well combined.

Step 2

In a separate small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Set aside.

Step 3

Heat a small saucepan over medium heat and add the prepared teriyaki sauce mixture. Bring it to a gentle simmer and cook for 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Slowly whisk in the cornstarch slurry and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 5

Pat the salmon steaks dry with paper towels and season lightly with salt and pepper.

Step 6

Heat a large non-stick skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil.

Step 7

Cook the salmon steaks for 4-5 minutes per side, depending on thickness, until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.

Step 8

During the last 1-2 minutes of cooking, brush the salmon with the prepared teriyaki sauce to create a glossy glaze.

Step 9

Transfer the cooked salmon to a serving plate. Drizzle additional teriyaki sauce over the top if desired.

Step 10

Sprinkle the salmon with sesame seeds and garnish with sliced green onions before serving.
