Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons Tamarind pulp
  • 4 cups Water
  • 3 tablespoons Jaggery (or brown sugar)
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Roasted cumin powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons Chaat masala
  • 8 leaves Mint leaves
  • 10 pieces Ice cubes

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, add 4 tablespoons of tamarind pulp and 1 cup of water. Simmer on medium heat for 5 minutes until the tamarind softens and dissolves in the water.

Step 2

Let the tamarind mixture cool, then strain it through a fine sieve to remove any seeds or fibers. Reserve the tamarind concentrate.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl or pitcher, combine the tamarind concentrate with 3 tablespoons of jaggery (or brown sugar). Stir until the jaggery dissolves completely.

Step 4

Add the remaining 3 cups of water to the mixture and stir well.

Step 5

Season the sharbat by adding 0.5 teaspoons of black salt, 0.5 teaspoons of roasted cumin powder, and 0.5 teaspoons of chaat masala. Adjust the spices and sweetness according to your taste.

Step 6

Lightly crush 8 mint leaves and add them to the sharbat for a refreshing flavor.

Step 7

Refrigerate the sharbat for 30 minutes to chill, or serve immediately over a glass filled with ice cubes.

Step 8

Garnish with a sprig of mint, if desired, and enjoy your homemade tamarind sharbat!
