Ingredients

  • 180 grams all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 50 grams sugar
  • 200 ml milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 100 grams sweet red bean paste (anko)
  • 1 as needed non-stick cooking spray

Directions

Step 1

In a mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour and baking powder. Add the sugar and whisk to combine.

In another bowl, whisk the milk and egg together until well mixed.

Step 3

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring with a spatula until a smooth batter forms. Make sure there are no lumps.

Stir in the vegetable oil and mix until fully incorporated.

Preheat a taiyaki pan over medium heat and lightly coat both sides with non-stick cooking spray.

Pour a thin layer of batter into one side of the mold, filling about 1/3 of each fish shape.

Place a spoonful of sweet red bean paste in the center of the batter of each fish mold.

Cover the red bean paste with additional batter until it reaches the edge of the mold, but do not overflow.
