Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese slices
  • 6 hamburger buns
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 6 leaves lettuce leaves
  • 6 slices tomato slices
  • 6 slices pickles
  • 6 slices onion slices
  • 0.25 cup ketchup
  • 0.25 cup mustard
  • 0.25 cup mayonnaise

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, about 375-400°F.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, gently combine the ground beef with the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and onion powder. Mix just until incorporated, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Step 3

Divide the mixture into 6 equal portions and shape into burger patties about ¾ inch thick. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to prevent it from puffing up while cooking.

Step 4

Lightly butter the inside of each hamburger bun and set them aside.

Step 5

Place the burger patties on the preheated grill. Cook for 4-5 minutes on the first side without pressing down on them. Flip the burgers and cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.

Step 6

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty and cover the grill to melt the cheese.

Step 7

While the burgers are finishing, place the buttered buns cut-side down on the grill to toast lightly. This should take about 1-2 minutes.

Step 8

Assemble the burgers by placing a grilled patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, and onion slices as desired. Spread ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise on the top half of the bun.

Step 9

Serve immediately and enjoy your Tailgating Burgers with your favorite side dishes!
