Ingredients

  • 500 grams Beef (boneless, cut into cubes)
  • 3 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 1 medium Onion (finely chopped)
  • 3 Garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger (minced)
  • 2 medium Tomatoes (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups Water
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh cilantro (chopped, for garnish)
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt (for roti dough)
  • 0.75 cups Water (for roti dough)
  • 2 tablespoons Butter (for brushing roti)

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, 0.5 teaspoon of salt, and 0.75 cups of water to form a smooth dough. Knead for 8-10 minutes, cover, and let the dough rest for 30 minutes.

Step 2

Heat 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a deep pot over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.

Step 3

Add the minced garlic and ginger, and sauté for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Step 4

Stir in the chopped tomatoes and cook until they break down into a thick paste.

Step 5

Add the turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, chili powder, garam masala, and 1 teaspoon of salt. Mix well to coat the spices evenly.

Step 6

Add the beef cubes and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned on all sides.

Step 7

Pour in 2 cups of water, bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for 60-75 minutes, or until the beef is tender.

Step 8

While the curry is cooking, divide the roti dough into 8 equal portions and roll each portion into a thin circle.

Step 9

Heat a skillet over medium heat and cook each roti for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown spots appear. Brush with melted butter and keep warm.

Step 10

Once the beef curry is done, garnish with fresh cilantro and serve alongside the warm roti.
