Ingredients

  • 4 pieces Hoagie rolls
  • 1 pound Roast beef
  • 8 slices Provolone cheese
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 4 tablespoons Mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons Prepared horseradish
  • 1 medium Yellow onion
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Slice the hoagie rolls in half lengthwise, but do not cut all the way through. Set them aside.

Step 3

Thinly slice the yellow onion. Heat a skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil.

Step 4

Add the sliced onion to the skillet and sauté for 5-7 minutes until caramelized and golden brown. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.

Step 5

In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, prepared horseradish, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

Step 6

Spread the mayonnaise mixture evenly on the inside of each hoagie roll.

Step 7

Divide the roast beef evenly among the four hoagie rolls, piling the meat inside each sandwich.

Step 8

Top the roast beef with two slices of provolone cheese per sandwich.

Step 9

Add a spoonful of caramelized onions on top of the cheese in each sandwich.

Step 10

Close the hoagie rolls and spread about 1/2 tablespoon of butter on the outside of each half of the roll.

Step 11

Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet, pressing them gently with a spatula to flatten slightly.

Step 12

Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

Step 13

Transfer the sandwiches to a baking sheet and place in the preheated oven for an additional 5 minutes to ensure thorough heating.

Step 14

Remove from the oven, slice each sandwich in half, and serve warm.
