Ingredients

  • 250 grams All-purpose flour
  • 100 grams Unsalted butter
  • 50 grams Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 50 milliliters Whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.

Step 3

Add the unsalted butter (cold and diced) into the flour mixture. Rub it in with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

Step 4

Stir in the granulated sugar to evenly distribute it.

Step 5

In a separate small bowl, mix the milk and vanilla extract.

Step 6

Gradually add the milk mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently with a fork until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overwork the dough.

Step 7

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it 2-3 times to ensure it is smooth.

Step 8

Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 5mm (1/4 inch).

Step 9

Use a round cookie cutter (approximately 5cm or 2 inches in diameter) to cut out the biscuits and transfer them to the prepared baking tray, leaving a small gap between each one.

Step 10

Prick the surface of each biscuit lightly with a fork to create the traditional pattern.

Step 11

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the biscuits are a pale golden color.

Step 12

Remove from the oven and allow the biscuits to cool on the baking tray for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 13

Serve with a cup of hot tea, and enjoy!
