Ingredients

  • 3 lbs Pork baby back ribs (or spare ribs)
  • 4 tbsp Brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp Paprika
  • 1 tbsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp Onion powder
  • 1 tbsp Chili powder
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp Cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce

Directions

Step 1

Remove the thin membrane from the back of the ribs if it has not already been removed. This helps make the ribs more tender.

Step 2

In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using) to create the dry rub.

Step 3

Rub the spice mixture generously over both sides of the ribs, ensuring they are evenly coated.

Step 4

Cut the ribs into 2-3 rib sections to fit them into the Crock Pot more easily.

Step 5

Place the ribs in the Crock Pot, standing them upright along the sides with the meaty side facing out. This allows for even cooking.

Step 6

Cover the Crock Pot with the lid and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the ribs are tender and the meat pulls away from the bone easily.

Step 7

Once cooked, carefully remove the ribs from the Crock Pot using tongs as they will be very tender and may fall apart.

Step 8

Optional: For a caramelized glaze, place the ribs on a baking sheet lined with foil, brush the tops generously with BBQ sauce, and broil in the oven on high for 3-5 minutes until the sauce is bubbly and slightly charred.

Step 9

Serve the ribs warm with extra BBQ sauce on the side, if desired.
