Ingredients

  • 4 cups canned baked beans
  • 6 slices bacon
  • 1 medium, diced onion
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 0.33 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the bacon and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain. Once cooled, crumble the bacon and set aside.

Step 3

In the same skillet, using the rendered bacon fat, sauté the diced onion until softened and translucent, about 4-5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, combine the baked beans, sautéed onions and garlic, ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, chili powder, black pepper, and salt. Mix well to incorporate all the ingredients evenly.

Step 5

Transfer the bean mixture to a 9x13-inch baking dish or any oven-safe dish.

Step 6

Sprinkle the crumbled bacon evenly over the top of the beans.

Step 7

Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and is bubbling around the edges.

Step 8

Remove from the oven and let the beans rest for about 5 minutes before serving.

Step 9

Serve warm as a side dish with your favorite barbecue or roasted meats.
