Ingredients

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2.5 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 6 tablespoons Unsalted butter (cold, cubed)
  • 0.75 cups Buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons Dry ranch seasoning mix
  • 0.5 cups Shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter (melted, for brushing tops)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

Step 3

Add the cubed cold butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, work the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs with small pea-sized pieces of butter.

Step 4

Stir in the dry ranch seasoning mix and shredded cheddar cheese (if using).

Step 5

Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk. Gently mix with a wooden spoon or spatula until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 6

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it 3–4 times to bring it together. Pat the dough into a 1-inch-thick disk.

Step 7

Use a round biscuit cutter (or the open end of a glass) to cut out biscuits. Re-roll the scraps as needed to form additional biscuits.

Step 8

Place the biscuits onto the prepared baking sheet, about 1 inch apart. For softer edges, place them closer together so they touch slightly.

Step 9

Brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter for a golden, flavorful finish.

Step 10

Bake in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes, or until the biscuits are puffed and golden brown on top.

Step 11

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with additional butter or your favorite spreads!
