Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1.5 cups Milk
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1.5 cups Raisins
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1 large Egg

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, and ground cinnamon. Mix well.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter over low heat until the butter is just melted. Let the mixture cool to around 110°F (43°C).

Step 3

Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the warm milk mixture and let it sit for 5 minutes until it starts to foam.

Step 4

Add the yeast mixture and the egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a sticky dough begins to form.

Step 5

Gradually add the remaining 1 cup of flour, 1/4 cup at a time, while kneading the dough on a floured surface. Knead for about 8–10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Step 6

Gently knead the raisins into the dough, making sure they are evenly distributed.

Step 7

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1–1.5 hours, or until it doubles in size.

Step 8

Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.

Step 9

Cover the loaf pan with the damp towel and let the dough rise again for about 30–40 minutes, or until it rises slightly above the edge of the pan.

Step 10

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 11

Bake the bread for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.

Step 12

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
