Ingredients

  • 500 grams beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 200 grams pineapple chunks, drained
  • 1 white onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cups cooked white rice (optional, for serving)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, ketchup, and brown sugar to make the sweet and sour sauce. Set aside.

Step 2

Dissolve the cornstarch in water in a separate small bowl to create a slurry. Set aside.

Step 3

Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.

Step 4

Add the thinly sliced beef and cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.

Step 5

In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.

Step 6

Sauté the garlic until fragrant, about 30 seconds, then add the sliced onions, red bell pepper, and green bell pepper. Cook for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender but still crisp.

Step 7

Add the pineapple chunks and cook for 1 minute to heat through.

Step 8

Return the cooked beef to the skillet and pour the prepared sweet and sour sauce over the mixture.

Step 9

Stir well to coat all ingredients in the sauce and bring it to a simmer.

Step 10

Slowly add the cornstarch slurry while stirring, allowing the sauce to thicken. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the desired thickness is reached.

Step 11

Remove the skillet from heat and serve the sweet and sour beef over cooked white rice, if desired.
