Ingredients

  • 16 oz extra-firm tofu
  • 0.5 cup orange juice
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 3 tbsp cooking oil
  • 2 stalks green onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

Directions

Step 1

Drain and press the tofu to remove excess moisture. Cut it into 1-inch cubes.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together orange juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger to make the teriyaki sauce.

Step 3

In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Set aside.

Step 4

Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu cubes and cook until golden and crispy on all sides, about 8–10 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Step 5

In the same skillet, add the prepared teriyaki sauce. Bring it to a simmer over medium heat.

Step 6

Once the sauce begins to bubble, stir in the cornstarch slurry. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens, about 2–3 minutes.

Step 7

Add the crispy tofu back into the skillet, gently tossing to coat it evenly in the sauce.

Step 8

Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.

Step 9

Serve hot with steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables for a complete meal.
