Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cups Warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 1 whole Egg, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons Orange blossom water
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil (for greasing)

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in warm water. Stir in 1 teaspoon of sugar (from the tablespoon) and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

Step 2

In a small saucepan, heat the milk and butter over low heat just until the butter melts. Let it cool until warm, about 100°F (38°C).

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, remaining granulated sugar, and salt.

Step 4

Add the yeast mixture, warm milk-butter mixture, egg, and orange blossom water to the dry ingredients. Stir until the dough begins to come together.

Step 5

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, kneading for 5-6 minutes.

Step 6

Lightly oil a large bowl with the vegetable oil. Place the dough inside, turning to coat it lightly with oil. Cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let the dough rise in a warm, draft-free place until doubled in size, about 1-1.5 hours.

Step 7

Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide it into 12 equal pieces and shape each piece into a round ball.

Step 8

Place the dough balls into a greased 9x13-inch baking pan, spacing them evenly. Cover loosely and let rise again until doubled in size, about 45 minutes.

Step 9

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Once the rolls have risen, bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Step 10

Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving. Optionally, brush with melted butter for a glossy finish.
