Ingredients

  • 6 pieces chicken thighs (bone-in, skin-on)
  • 1 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed preferred)
  • 0.5 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger (grated)
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 stalks green onions (sliced, for garnish)
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Directions

Step 1

In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the orange juice, soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and orange zest to create the marinade.

Step 2

Season the chicken thighs on both sides with salt and pepper. Place them in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over the chicken. Seal the bag or cover the dish and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours for more flavor.

Step 3

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Remove the chicken from the marinade and reserve the marinade for later use.

Step 4

Heat a large oven-safe skillet or pan over medium-high heat. Place the chicken thighs skin-side down in the pan and sear for 3-4 minutes until the skin is browned and crispy. Flip the chicken over and sear the other side for 2 minutes.

Step 5

Pour the reserved marinade into the skillet and transfer the skillet to the preheated oven. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C). Baste the chicken with the sauce halfway through cooking for extra flavor.

Step 6

While the chicken is cooking, make the glaze. Transfer the sauce from the skillet to a small saucepan and bring it to a simmer over medium heat. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water to create a slurry, then stir it into the simmering sauce. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.

Step 7

Once the chicken is done, remove it from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes. Drizzle the thickened sauce over the chicken.

Step 8

Garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds before serving. Pair with steamed rice or sautéed vegetables for a complete meal.
