Ingredients

  • 1 lb ribeye steak
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 1 medium green bell pepper
  • 1 medium red bell pepper
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 4 provolone cheese slices

Directions

Step 1

Freeze the ribeye steak for 15-20 minutes to make it easier to slice thinly.

Step 2

While the steak is chilling, slice the onion, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper into thin strips. Mince the garlic cloves.

Step 3

Remove the steak from the freezer and slice it into very thin strips across the grain.

Step 4

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak strips in batches, cooking for 1-2 minutes per side until browned but not overcooked. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.

Step 5

In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Sauté the onions and peppers for 5-6 minutes until softened and slightly caramelized. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1 minute.

Step 6

Return the steak to the skillet with the sautéed vegetables. Stir in the soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and salt. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring to combine and heat through.

Step 7

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise and lightly butter the inside of each roll.

Step 8

Place the buttered rolls on a baking sheet and toast them in the oven for 3-5 minutes until golden and crisp.

Step 9

Remove the toasted rolls from the oven and layer each with the steak and vegetable mixture. Top with a slice of provolone cheese.

Step 10

Return the assembled sandwiches to the oven for 2-3 minutes, just long enough for the cheese to melt.

Step 11

Serve the Onion Pepper Steak Sandwiches hot and enjoy your flavorful meal!
