Ingredients

  • 3.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 1.25 cups Warm water (110°F/43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Vegetable oil
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Milk

Directions

Step 1

In a skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until golden brown and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Set aside to cool.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.

Step 3

In a small pot, heat the butter and warm water until the butter is melted. Let the mixture cool slightly until it is warm to the touch (110°F/43°C).

Step 4

Add the warm butter-water mixture to the dry ingredients. Stir to combine.

Step 5

Mix in the egg and milk, followed by the caramelized onions. Stir the mixture until it forms a thick batter. Note: The dough will be too sticky to knead.

Step 6

Cover the mixing bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the batter rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes or until doubled in size.

Step 7

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.

Step 8

Stir the batter lightly to release some air, then spoon it into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Step 9

Let the batter rise again for another 20 minutes while the oven finishes preheating.

Step 10

Bake the bread for 35-40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.

Step 11

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
