Ingredients

  • 300 grams Dark chocolate
  • 200 grams Unsalted butter
  • 200 grams Granulated sugar
  • 5 units Large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 100 grams All-purpose flour
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered sugar

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a 9-inch springform pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.

Step 2

Chop the dark chocolate into small pieces and melt it with the unsalted butter in a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water, stirring occasionally. Ensure the bowl doesn't touch the water.

Step 3

Once melted and smooth, remove the chocolate mixture from heat and let it cool slightly.

Step 4

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and eggs using an electric mixer on high speed until the mixture is pale and doubles in volume, about 5 minutes.

Step 5

Gently fold the melted chocolate and butter mixture into the egg and sugar mixture using a spatula until fully incorporated.

Step 6

Mix in the vanilla extract, and then sift in the flour and salt, folding gently until the batter is just combined without any streaks of flour.

Step 7

Pour the batter into the prepared springform pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the center of the torte is set and a skewer inserted into the center comes out mostly clean.

Step 9

Allow the torte to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then carefully remove the sides of the springform pan and cool completely on a wire rack.

Step 10

Before serving, dust the top of the torte with powdered sugar. Serve slices with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.
