Ingredients

  • 150 grams all-purpose flour
  • 75 grams granulated sugar
  • 50 grams light brown sugar
  • 100 grams unsalted butter, cold and diced
  • 75 grams rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 800 grams mixed fresh fruit (such as apples, berries, or pears)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 0.25 teaspoon fine salt

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, light brown sugar, and fine salt.

Step 3

Add the cold, diced unsalted butter to the flour mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse breadcrumbs.

Step 4

Mix in the rolled oats and vanilla extract, and set the crumble topping aside.

Step 5

Wash, core, and slice the fresh fruit into bite-sized pieces, then place them into a medium baking dish (about 23 cm or 9 inches square).

Step 6

Sprinkle the lemon juice, cinnamon, and cornstarch over the fruit and toss gently to coat evenly.

Step 7

Distribute the crumble topping evenly over the fruit mixture.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.

Step 9

Allow the crumble to cool slightly before serving warm, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
