Ingredients

  • 1 pack Pre-made refrigerated pie crust
  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 4 ounces Green chilies, diced (canned or fresh, roasted and peeled)
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 cup Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 1 large Egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons Cilantro, chopped (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Roll out one pie crust and press it into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim any excess crust hanging over the edges.

Step 3

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it into crumbles with a spoon. Drain any excess fat.

Step 4

Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 5

Stir in the minced garlic, green chilies, tomato paste, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook for another 2-3 minutes to combine the flavors.

Step 6

Remove the skillet from heat and let the mixture cool slightly before transferring it to the pie crust.

Step 7

Sprinkle the shredded Monterey Jack cheese evenly over the beef mixture.

Step 8

Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Seal the edges of the pie by crimping with a fork or your fingers.

Step 9

Use a sharp knife to cut 3-4 small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.

Step 10

Brush the top crust with the beaten egg to ensure a golden, glossy finish.

Step 11

Place the pie on the middle rack of the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is hot and bubbly.

Step 12

Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with chopped cilantro, if desired, and serve warm.
