Ingredients

  • 250 grams Paneer (Indian cottage cheese)
  • 1 cup Green peas (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 medium, finely chopped Onion
  • 3 medium, pureed Tomatoes
  • 4 minced Garlic cloves
  • 1 inch, grated Ginger
  • 1 finely chopped Green chili
  • 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red chili powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons Coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh cream
  • 3 tablespoons Vegetable oil
  • 1 to taste Salt
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 tablespoons, chopped Fresh cilantro (coriander leaves)

Directions

Step 1

Cut the paneer into bite-sized cubes. Optionally, lightly fry them in 1 tablespoon of oil until golden on all sides. Set aside.

Step 2

Heat the remaining oil in a large pan or skillet over medium heat.

Step 3

Add cumin seeds and the bay leaf to the hot oil and sauté for 30 seconds until aromatic.

Add the finely chopped onions and sauté until golden brown, about 6–8 minutes.

Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, and chopped green chili. Cook for 1–2 minutes until the raw aroma disappears.

Add the tomato puree and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the oil separates from the masala.

Stir in garam masala and fresh cream. Cook for 1–2 minutes, then turn off the heat.
