Ingredients

  • 1 sheet Puff pastry sheet
  • 200 grams Button mushrooms
  • 1 medium Zucchini
  • 120 grams Gruyere cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh thyme leaves
  • 0.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon All-purpose flour (for dusting)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet. Cut it into four equal squares and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 3

Using a knife, score a border about 1 cm (1/2 inch) from the edges of each pastry square, being careful not to cut all the way through. This will create a raised edge during baking.

Step 4

Clean and thinly slice the button mushrooms. Trim the ends of the zucchini and cut it into thin rounds. Set both aside.

Step 5

Heat olive oil in a medium skillet over medium heat. Mince the garlic and sauté it for 1 minute until fragrant. Add the mushrooms, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 5–6 minutes until the mushrooms are golden and their moisture has evaporated. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 6

Shred the Gruyere cheese and set it aside.

Step 7

In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and heavy cream. Brush this mixture onto the scored edges of the puff pastry to promote a golden crust.

Step 8

Sprinkle half of the shredded Gruyere evenly over the center of the pastry squares, avoiding the edges.

Step 9

Distribute the cooked mushrooms and zucchini rounds over the cheese. Top with the remaining Gruyere cheese.

Step 10

Bake the tartlets in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown, and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 11

Remove the tartlets from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
