Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 8 ounces Button or cremini mushrooms (sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 Cheddar or Swiss cheese (slices)
  • 4 Burger buns
  • 4 tablespoons Mayonnaise
  • 4 Lettuce leaves
  • 1 Tomato (sliced)
  • 8 Pickles (sliced)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Step 2

Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties about 1/2 inch thick. Use your thumb to make a small indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing up during cooking.

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until they release their moisture and begin to brown.

Step 4

Add the butter and Worcestershire sauce to the mushrooms, stirring until the butter melts and the mushrooms are evenly coated. Remove the mushrooms from the skillet and set aside.

Step 5

In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Place the burger patties in the skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes per side for medium doneness or until cooked to your desired level. Add a slice of cheese to each patty during the final 1-2 minutes of cooking, covering the skillet with a lid to help the cheese melt.

Step 6

Toast the burger buns lightly under a broiler or in a toaster for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

Step 7

To assemble the burgers, spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on the bottom half of each bun. Layer with a lettuce leaf, a cheesy burger patty, a generous spoonful of sautéed mushrooms, a tomato slice, and pickle slices. Finish with the top half of the bun.

Step 8

Serve immediately with your favorite sides, such as fries or a fresh salad.
