Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground lamb or beef
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Ground coriander
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon Turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 medium Carrots, finely diced
  • 50 grams Raisins
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 Eggs, beaten
  • 1 sheet Puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame seeds
  • 200 grams Yogurt or tzatziki, for serving (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat.

Step 3

Sauté the chopped onion until soft and translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Step 5

Add the ground lamb or beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.

Step 6

Stir in the cinnamon, cumin, coriander, ginger, paprika, turmeric, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes to toast the spices.

Step 7

Add the diced carrots and raisins to the skillet, cooking for an additional 5-7 minutes until the carrots are tender.

Step 8

Stir in the chopped cilantro and parsley, then remove the skillet from heat. Let the filling cool slightly.

Step 9

On a floured surface, roll out the puff pastry if necessary to fit your pie dish.

Step 10

Place the pastry into a greased pie dish, trimming any excess edges.

Step 11

Fill the pastry with the spiced filling, spreading it evenly.

Step 12

Fold any excess pastry over the filling, or use additional pastry sheets to create a lattice top if desired.

Step 13

Brush the pastry surface with the beaten egg to ensure a golden, shiny crust.

Step 14

Sprinkle the top with sesame seeds.

Step 15

Bake the pie in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy.

Step 16

Allow the pie to cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Step 17

Serve warm with a side of yogurt or tzatziki, if desired.
