Ingredients

  • 1 cup Yellow moong dal (split yellow lentils)
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1 cup Ghee (clarified butter)
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon Cardamom powder
  • 2 tablespoons Almonds (sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons Pistachios (chopped)
  • 1 cup Warm water

Directions

Step 1

Rinse the yellow moong dal thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear. Soak it in 1 cup of warm water for 3-4 hours.

Step 2

Drain the soaked moong dal and grind it into a coarse paste without adding any additional water.

Step 3

Heat the ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan or kadhai over medium heat. Once hot, add the moong dal paste and start roasting it.

Step 4

Stir continuously to prevent sticking and roast the moong dal paste until it turns golden brown and emits a nutty aroma. This process could take about 20-25 minutes.

Step 5

Meanwhile, heat the milk in a separate saucepan until it comes to a gentle boil, then keep it warm.

Step 6

Once the dal is roasted, slowly add the hot milk to the pan, stirring continuously to incorporate it with the dal. Be cautious as the mixture may splutter.

Step 7

Cook the mixture until the milk is fully absorbed by the dal and the mixture thickens, which should take around 8-10 minutes.

Step 8

Add the sugar to the pan and mix it well. Continue stirring and cooking until the sugar dissolves completely and the seera attains a glossy texture.

Step 9

Sprinkle the cardamom powder over the mixture and mix it to incorporate the flavor evenly.

Step 10

Garnish the seera with sliced almonds and chopped pistachios, saving some for serving if desired.

Step 11

Serve the Moong Dal Ka Seera warm, garnished with additional nuts on top.
