Ingredients

  • 2 oz dark chocolate liqueur
  • 1.5 oz tequila (preferably reposado)
  • 0.5 oz orange liqueur (such as Cointreau or triple sec)
  • 0.5 oz cinnamon simple syrup
  • 1 oz heavy cream
  • 0.25 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper
  • 6 pieces ice cubes
  • 1 piece dark chocolate (for garnish)
  • 1 strip orange zest (for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Prepare the cinnamon simple syrup in advance by simmering equal parts sugar and water with a cinnamon stick until the sugar dissolves. Allow it to cool before using.

Step 2

Chill a coupe or martini glass by filling it with ice water. Let it sit while you prepare the cocktail.

Step 3

In a shaker, combine the dark chocolate liqueur, tequila, orange liqueur, cinnamon simple syrup, heavy cream, unsweetened cocoa powder, and a pinch of cayenne pepper.

Step 4

Add the ice cubes to the shaker, then secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds, or until the mixture is well-chilled and frothy.

Step 5

Empty the ice water out of the glass and strain the cocktail mixture into the chilled coupe or martini glass.

Step 6

Using a grater, shave a small amount of dark chocolate over the top of the cocktail for garnish.

Step 7

Add a strip of orange zest to the rim or float it delicately on top of the cocktail for extra aroma and visual appeal.

Step 8

Serve immediately and enjoy!
