Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 cup whole milk
  • 2 units large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 cup ketchup (for topping glaze)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (for topping glaze)
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard (for topping glaze)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easier cleanup.

Step 2

In a large skillet, sauté the finely chopped onion in a tablespoon of oil over medium heat until softened, about 3–4 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, sautéed onion and garlic mixture, breadcrumbs, milk, beaten eggs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper.

Step 4

Mix the ingredients gently using your hands or a wooden spoon until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the meatloaf dense.

Step 5

Transfer the meat mixture into the prepared loaf pan and shape it into a loaf, pressing gently to ensure it's even.

Step 6

In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard for the topping glaze.

Step 7

Spread the glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf using a spoon or silicone spatula.

Step 8

Place the meatloaf in the oven and bake for 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) when measured with a meat thermometer.

Step 9

Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing. This helps lock in the juices.

Step 10

Serve the meatloaf warm with your favorite sides, such as mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables.
