Ingredients

  • 500 g Button mushrooms (or cremini mushrooms)
  • 3 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 4 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Fresh thyme leaves (or 1 tsp dried thyme)
  • 2 tbsp Fresh parsley, chopped
  • 60 ml Dry white wine (optional)
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper, freshly ground
  • 0.25 tsp Red chili flakes (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Clean the mushrooms by gently wiping them with a damp paper towel or brushing off any dirt. Trim the stems if necessary, and slice the mushrooms into thick pieces.

Step 2

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the olive oil and 2 tbsp of butter, allowing them to melt and combine.

Step 3

Once the butter is bubbling, add the mushrooms to the skillet in a single layer. Avoid overcrowding them to allow proper browning. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms are golden brown and have released most of their moisture.

Step 4

Lower the heat to medium and add the minced garlic, thyme, salt, black pepper, and red chili flakes (if using). Sauté for 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, to prevent the garlic from burning.

Step 5

If using white wine, pour it into the skillet and deglaze by scraping the bottom to release any browned bits. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, allowing the alcohol to cook off while infusing the mushrooms with flavor.

Step 6

Stir in the remaining 1 tbsp of butter along with the chopped parsley. Allow the butter to melt and coat the mushrooms evenly. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

Step 7

Remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish. Garnish with additional parsley if desired.

Step 8

Serve warm as a standalone appetizer or as a topping for toasted bread, pasta, or rice dishes.
