Ingredients

  • 300 grams penne pasta
  • 500 grams ground beef
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 units garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium bell pepper, diced
  • 100 grams frozen peas
  • 400 grams canned diced tomatoes
  • 250 milliliters heavy cream
  • 200 grams shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 50 grams parmesan cheese, grated (optional, for topping)
  • 3 liters water
  • 1 tablespoon salt (for boiling pasta)

Directions

Step 1

Bring 3 liters of water with 1 tablespoon of salt to a boil in a large pot. Add the penne pasta, cook according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.

Step 2

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 3

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 5

Mix in the diced bell pepper and frozen peas. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 6

Add the canned diced tomatoes, paprika, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Stir everything together and let it simmer for 10 minutes to blend the flavors.

Step 7

Reduce the heat to low, then stir in the heavy cream. Cook for 3-4 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.

Step 8

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

Step 9

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked penne pasta and the sauce mixture. Stir well to ensure the pasta is evenly coated.

Step 10

Lightly grease a 9x13-inch (or similar size) casserole dish. Pour the pasta and sauce mixture into the dish, spreading it out evenly.

Step 11

Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top in an even layer.

Step 12

Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 13

Optional: Sprinkle grated parmesan cheese on top before serving for an extra cheesy flavor.

Step 14

Remove the casserole from the oven, let it rest for 5 minutes, and serve warm. Enjoy your delicious 'Milton' casserole!
