Ingredients

  • 12 pieces fresh figs
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 120 milliliters orange juice
  • 60 milliliters water
  • 0.5 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground cardamom
  • 0.25 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 0.5 teaspoons rose water
  • 2 tablespoons slivered almonds
  • 2 tablespoons pistachios, chopped
  • 1 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 6 pieces fresh mint leaves for garnish

Directions

Step 1

Wash the figs gently under cold water and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel. Trim off the stems and cut each fig in half lengthwise.

Step 2

In a medium-sized skillet, melt the unsalted butter over low-medium heat until it starts to foam.

Step 3

Place the halved figs cut-side down into the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes to lightly caramelize them. Remove the figs and set aside.

Step 4

In the same skillet, add the honey, orange juice, water, ground cinnamon, ground cardamom, and ground ginger. Stir gently to combine and bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat.

Step 5

Return the figs to the skillet, arranging them cut-side up. Cook for 5-6 minutes, spooning the syrup over the figs occasionally to coat them evenly.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to low and add the rose water to the skillet. Stir gently and simmer for an additional 1-2 minutes. Be careful not to overcook the figs as they can become too soft.

Step 7

Transfer the spiced figs and syrup to a serving dish. Sprinkle the top with slivered almonds and chopped pistachios.

Step 8

Garnish with fresh mint leaves and serve warm. These figs pair beautifully with yogurt, vanilla ice cream, or as a topping for pancakes or waffles.
