Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground turkey
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 0.5 Yellow onion, diced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Chili powder
  • 1 tsp Ground cumin
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 0.5 tsp Dried oregano
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Ground black pepper
  • 2 tbsp Tomato paste
  • 0.25 cup Chicken broth or water
  • 2 tbsp Fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Step 2

Add the diced onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes, until softened.

Step 3

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds, until fragrant.

Step 4

Add the ground turkey to the skillet and break it up using a spatula or wooden spoon. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the turkey is no longer pink.

Step 5

Sprinkle the chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, salt, and black pepper over the meat. Stir well to coat the turkey with the spices.

Step 6

Add the tomato paste and mix it into the turkey until evenly combined.

Step 7

Pour in the chicken broth or water to help deglaze the pan and create a saucy texture. Stir and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, until the liquid has mostly evaporated.

Step 8

Remove the skillet from heat and taste to adjust seasoning if necessary.

Step 9

Garnish with fresh chopped cilantro if desired and serve hot with tortillas, taco shells, or as a topping for taco salads or bowls.
