Ingredients

  • 2 cups Cooked shredded chicken
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon Chili powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Fresh lime juice
  • 12 pieces Corn tortillas
  • 1 cup Vegetable oil
  • 1 cup Shredded cheese (cheddar or Monterey Jack)
  • 0.5 cup Sour cream (for serving)
  • 0.5 cup Guacamole (for serving)
  • 0.5 cup Salsa (for serving)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the shredded chicken, garlic powder, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, black pepper, and lime juice. Mix until the chicken is evenly seasoned.

Step 2

Warm the corn tortillas in the microwave or on a skillet for about 10-15 seconds each to make them pliable and prevent cracking when rolled.

Step 3

Place 2 tablespoons of the seasoned chicken mixture onto the center of each tortilla. If desired, sprinkle a little shredded cheese on top of the chicken filling.

Step 4

Tightly roll each tortilla around the filling and secure with a toothpick to ensure it stays rolled during frying.

Step 5

Heat the vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Test by dropping a small piece of tortilla into the oil; if it bubbles immediately, the oil is ready.

Step 6

Carefully place 2-3 flautas into the hot oil seam-side down and fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Use tongs to turn them for even cooking.

Step 7

Remove the fried flautas from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to remove excess oil. Repeat with the remaining flautas.

Step 8

To serve, remove toothpicks and arrange the flautas on a platter. Serve hot with sour cream, guacamole, and salsa on the side.
