Ingredients

  • 500 g ground lamb or beef (or a mix)
  • 100 g crumbled feta cheese
  • 50 g plain breadcrumbs
  • 1 medium shallot, finely minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 30 g fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 0.5 tsp ground cumin
  • 0.5 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 150 g Greek yogurt
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 10 g fresh mint, chopped
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 pieces tomato slices
  • 4 leaves lettuce leaves

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the ground lamb or beef, crumbled feta, breadcrumbs, minced shallot, garlic, parsley, oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

Step 2

Crack the egg into the mixture and mix everything thoroughly using your hands until well combined.

Step 3

Form the mixture into 4 evenly sized burger patties, about 2 cm thick. Set aside.

Step 4

In a small bowl, whisk together the Greek yogurt, lemon juice, mint, a pinch of salt, and black pepper to create the yogurt sauce. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Step 5

Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium heat and add the olive oil.

Step 6

Cook the burger patties for 5-7 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked (internal temperature of 160°F/71°C for beef, slightly lower for lamb if desired).

Step 7

While the patties are cooking, lightly toast the burger buns in a toaster or on the grill pan.

Step 8

Assemble the burgers: spread a layer of the yogurt sauce on the bottom bun, add a lettuce leaf, a cooked burger patty, a tomato slice, and top with more yogurt sauce if desired. Place the top bun on and serve.

Step 9

Serve immediately, optionally with fries or a side salad.
