Ingredients

  • 500 g Ground lamb or beef
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 3 units Garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tbsp Parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp Ground allspice
  • 1 tsp Ground cumin
  • 0.5 tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 1.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 75 g Breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 400 g Tomato sauce
  • 300 ml Chicken or beef stock
  • 1 unit Cinnamon stick
  • 1 unit Bay leaf

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground lamb or beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, ground allspice, ground cumin, ground cinnamon, salt, black pepper, breadcrumbs, and egg.

Step 2

Using your hands, mix the ingredients thoroughly until well combined.

Step 3

Form the mixture into small, evenly sized meatballs (approximately 3 cm in diameter) and set them aside on a plate.

Step 4

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or pan over medium heat.

Step 5

Carefully add the meatballs to the pan and brown them on all sides. This should take about 6-8 minutes. Remove the meatballs and set them aside on a plate.

Step 6

In the same pan, add the tomato sauce, chicken or beef stock, cinnamon stick, and bay leaf. Stir to combine and bring the sauce to a simmer.

Step 7

Return the meatballs to the pan, cover, and simmer on low heat for 25-30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the meatballs to cook through.

Step 8

Discard the cinnamon stick and bay leaf before serving.

Step 9

Serve the Meatballs Libanaise hot with rice, pita bread, or a fresh salad. Enjoy!
