Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 0.5 lb ground pork
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cups marinara sauce
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley (optional for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, milk, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.

Step 3

Roll the meat mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs and place them onto a baking sheet or plate.

Step 4

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Working in batches, brown the meatballs on all sides until they are golden brown. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Transfer browned meatballs to a plate and set aside.

Step 5

In the same skillet, add marinara sauce and bring it to a simmer. Return the meatballs to the skillet, making sure they're covered in the sauce. Cover the skillet and let the meatballs cook in the marinara sauce for about 15 minutes, or until fully cooked through.

Step 6

While the meatballs are simmering, slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise, leaving them attached on one side. Place them on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for 5 minutes, or until lightly crispy.

Step 7

Spoon 3-4 meatballs with sauce into each hoagie roll. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.

Step 8

Return the assembled hoagies back to the oven and bake for 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 9

Garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot.
