Ingredients

  • 500 grams ground beef (80% lean)
  • 250 grams ground pork
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 120 grams breadcrumbs
  • 120 milliliters milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons black pepper
  • 400 milliliters tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) and lightly grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.

Step 2

In a small bowl, combine the breadcrumbs and milk. Let them soak for 5 minutes until moistened.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, chopped onion, garlic, soaked breadcrumbs, egg, Worcestershire sauce, parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently using your hands until all ingredients are well incorporated, but be careful not to overmix.

Step 4

Transfer the meat mixture into the prepared loaf pan and press it down evenly to form a loaf shape.

Step 5

In a medium-sized bowl, prepare the sauce by combining tomato sauce, tomato paste, brown sugar, and dried oregano. Mix well.

Step 6

Heat the olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the prepared sauce and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, to blend flavors.

Step 7

Pour about half of the sauce over the meatloaf, reserving the rest for serving later. Use a spatula to spread the sauce evenly over the top.

Step 8

Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the meatloaf reaches 70°C (160°F).

Step 9

Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.

Step 10

Serve warm, topped with the reserved sauce, alongside your favorite sides like mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables.
