Ingredients

  • 4 large Russet potatoes
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese
  • 0.5 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped fresh parsley

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Peel and chop the russet potatoes into evenly sized chunks. Place them in a large pot and cover with cold water.

Step 3

Add 1 teaspoon of salt to the water and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cook the potatoes for 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.

Step 4

While the potatoes are cooking, mince the garlic and heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir in the minced garlic and let it infuse for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat.

Step 5

Drain the cooked potatoes and return them to the hot pot. Let them sit for 1-2 minutes to remove excess moisture.

Step 6

Mash the potatoes using a potato masher or a ricer until smooth. Stir in the butter, garlic-infused cream, salt, and black pepper until fully combined.

Step 7

Fold in 3/4 cup of Parmesan cheese and 3/4 cup of Gruyere cheese. Mix well to ensure the cheese is evenly distributed.

Step 8

Transfer the mashed potatoes to a greased baking dish and spread them out evenly.

Step 9

In a small bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, the remaining Parmesan cheese, 1/4 cup of Gruyere cheese, and olive oil. Mix until the breadcrumbs are evenly coated.

Step 10

Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the top of the mashed potatoes.

Step 11

Bake the gratin in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

Step 12

Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
